What's A Custom Facial? Specialized Treatment for Great Results!

With the wonders of technology and the advancements we’ve made in understanding our biology, the way we take care of our bodies has changed significantly. More easily accessible than ever is the ability to customize and personalize daily products such as face washes, hair treatments, and skincare routines.

In today’s article, we will be going over one of these customizable treatment options: a customized facial. Topics of discussion will include how customized facials are different from a standard facial, as well as what results to expect from the process.

Customized facials vs traditional facials

Overall, the goal of facials is to improve the look and texture of your skin, improving the overall health of the skin on your face - especially for acne prone skin. While both facials tend to have anti aging properties, customized facials will target specific concerns that you have for your skin while also providing individually focused skincare.

Your esthetician takes the time to evaluate your skin

The entire customization process is spearheaded by your esthetician. Through a combination of discussing your skincare concerns and visually assessing the health and state of your skin, your esthetician will be able to build the foundations of your treatment based on their education, training, and experience.

Results-driven treatments based on your skin concerns

Believe it or not, your customized plan is more than just a relaxing facial that you treat yourself to. When you sign up for your customized skin care treatment, you’re getting a results-driven service that works beyond your appointment. Oftentimes your skincare technician can recommend products and routines that help boost your results even after you leave the salon.

What to expect from your customized facial appointment

With a customized facial, the results are more impactful, but the process remains relatively similar. If you’re not sure what to expect, we’ve outlined what you can do to best prepare for your appointment, as well as what to expect both during and after your service.

How to prepare for a custom facial

Preparation is a simple yet important part of your customized skincare experience. Thankfully the process is easy and requires just a few steps. First, try to avoid wearing makeup or applying thick, heavy products to the face. If using a product containing retinol is a part of your skincare routine, it is important to not only notify your esthetician, but also avoid using the product for at least three days before your appointment. As a precaution, we always recommend taking note of any medications you may be using to ensure that there are no contraindications with your custom treatment.

During your customized facial appointment

Based on the discussion that you have, as well as your daily skin care routine, your esthetician will choose from a variety of treatments, serums, and tools to get the best possible facial. Usually the process begins with a relaxing deep cleansing and can also include a soothing massage of the neck and shoulders.

Types of treatments used in custom facials

When you think of getting a facial, you may just think of creams and gels being applied to your face, but the truth is that it can be much more than that! Use of light, extraction tools, oxygen machines and even facial peels may be incorporated into your treatment to compliment the needs of your skin.

For example, a common addition to most facial packages for most skin types is a service known as dermaplaning. Most of these treatment styles are geared towards amplifying your skin's ability to absorb the products being applied to the skin, as well as helping the skin in starting the healing and regenerating process.

Custom facial aftercare for long-lasting results

Your custom facial will do most of the leg work, but don't let your personalized treatments miss their full potential by not participating in the proper aftercare techniques. Since each facial will be slightly different, there will be different ways your esthetician recommends taking care of your skin following your appointment.

Overall, the foundations of aftercare are as follows: avoid direct sunlight and activities that cause you to sweat for at least the first 24 hours. Additionally, be sure to keep your skin hydrated from both the inside and outside so that you see the full potential of your skin following your facial. Dry, dehydrated skin will impact the results of your facial significantly.
